Amplify Community Efforts
About Us
Epilogue Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Portland, Oregon. Our mission is to expand access to end-of-life (EOL) education and small guesthouse options that complement and strengthen the existing efforts of Oregon's EOL community.
Founded in 2022, Epilogue began with a vision of creating a small bed & breakfast where people in the final days or weeks of life—and their loved ones—could find comfort, dignity, and caregiving support during these transitions. While that vision remains at the heart of our work, we have taken a thoughtful, community-centered approach to determining how best to bring it to life.
As a grassroots nonprofit, we have spent time learning from and building relationships within Oregon's EOL care community. We quickly discovered that many dedicated organizations and individuals are already doing remarkable work. That realization reinforced an important principle: our role should not be defined in isolation, but in collaboration with those who share a commitment to improving EOL care.
To help guide this process, Epilogue Foundation recently launched a collaborative initiative with Ensō Consulting to map Oregon's EOL care ecosystem. This project seeks to illuminate the strengths, gaps, relationships, and opportunities across the community. The resulting insights will help shape Epilogue's future while also providing a resource that supports more informed, coordinated decision-making among organizations, professionals, and community members throughout Oregon.
We believe meaningful change begins with listening and understanding. By learning from the community before building new programs, we hope to contribute thoughtfully, strengthen existing efforts, and help create a more connected and compassionate end-of-life care landscape for all Oregonians.
Our Leadership
Ryoka Kim, Ph.D. (she/her)
Founder & President | Board Chair
Spending the final week of my grandmother's life with her was both a gift and the inspiration for founding Epilogue Foundation. I realized that timely education and compassionate guidance could have eased much of the uncertainty and regret that so many families experience. As a licensed psychologist with more than 10 years of clinical experience, I have seen that grief often begins long before death, and that small pieces of information at the right time can make a profound difference. Oregon is where I hope my ashes will rest one day. Until then, I hope to serve alongside my fellow mortals, fostering greater clarity, compassion, and collaboration in end-of-life care.

My professional life was devoted to international education both here in the US and abroad. Study abroad and student exchange lifts the world because of the personal connections and expansion of world view. Epilogue supports peace at the end of life in a very personal way. Following this path, we can help shape standards of life, conduct, and daily culture. We can die in the way we wish to live, aware and embracing. Through Epilogue, I am learning every day how to expand my personal goals of living a meaningful life and die within this vision.

Throughout my life and career, I’ve navigated two very different worlds: the financial environment of corporate, public finance, and nonprofit management; and the deeply personal realm of elder law, bioethics, and end-of-life care. Patty (my wife) and I helped create and we managed Caring House, a nonprofit end-of-life home in Southern California. I believe everyone deserves peace at the end of life. I will bring my experience and heart to helping Epilogue Foundation develop and evolve for the benefit of our Portland community.
